Zara Rahman

Zara Rahman works on issues around technology, international development, and data use. She currently consults to School of Data, aiming to empower civil society and journalists from across the world with the data literacy skills they need to carry out their work more effectively. She recently co-authored a book on responsible use of data in the international development sector. She is a fellow at the Centre for Internet and Human Rights at European University Viadrina.

Previously, Zara led work on the Open Development Toolkit with the Open Knowledge Foundation, and she was a Research Associate, and the first employee, at OpenOil, looking into governance and transparency in the extractive industries. She contributed to the books How to read and understand an oil contract, and Exploring Oil Data, a guide to publicly available data sources on the extractive industry. Zara holds British and Bangladeshi nationalities, and speaks fluent French, Spanish and German, and bits of Arabic.
