Description:

Open cultures advocate and educator, Irene Agrivina, one of the co-founders of HONF, the Yogyakarta, Indonesia based 'House of Natural Fiber' media art and technologies lab will introduce the YOGYA2015 Summit of Critical Making. YOGYA2015 is intended as a global collaborative and hands-on event, bringing the world's leading 'critical' makers, thinkers and doers together. In a focussed exploration of today's pressing social, technological and sustainability challenges YOGYA2015 will highlight the unique and innovative forms of open culture practiced in Indonesia. Since it's inception in the late 1990's protests that swept away the country's dictatorship HONF has worked at fusing art, open technology and education with grass-roots community interaction. With a focus on peer-to-peer models of sustainability and collaborative enterprise the HONF Foundation explores DIY, hactivist and critical maker culture through its fablab, CELLSBUTTON festival, an Education Focus Programme' (EFP) and the v.u.f.o.c. observatory of artistic interventions.
