In 2015, re:publica will host the third Global Innovation Gathering (GIG). The Global Innovation Gathering brings together innovation hub managers, makers, hackers and entrepreneurs from across the world. Launched at re:publica 2013, GIG has become an central part of the re:publica programme, showcasing tech innovation and maker projects from Asia, Africa and Latin America. The GIG participants have formed a strong community that exchanges information and expertise on innovation and maker issues throughout the year.

The re:publica Call for Papers is your opportunity to join the GIG community and be a part of the Global Innovation Gathering 2015! 

GIG Topics

In order to do so, we invite you to hand in a talk or workshop, including ideas for hands-on maker projects. Central GIG topics include: co-working cultures, maker and hacker cultures in different areas of the world as well as the role of labs, hubs and grass roots initiatives for start-up and tech ecosystems. In addition, GIG 2015 will welcome contributions on social and digital innovation in:

• Agriculture
• Health
• City planning
• Mobility, including migration and traffic management
• Governance, in particular in crisis, disease and conflict management

GIG Schedule and Requirements

Apart from attending and giving an awesome talk at Europe’s leading conference on the Internet and society, being part of the GIG programme includes the following:

May 2-3                   pre-publica GIG community workshop

May 4                      Berlin GIG tour

May 5-7                   re:publica programme

May 8                      afternoon debrief

In order to partake in the full programme, you will be required to be in Berlin from May 1-9, 2015, and be willing to become a member of the GIG community, which actively exchanges ideas and experiences through virtual networks throughout the year.

Who can be a part of GIG?

If you manage an innovation, hacker, maker space or co-working space, are an innovator, entrepreneur, hacker or generally awesome and inspiring person, have developed innovative solutions to local development problems or been a part of building a tech-innovation community in the country you live and would like to share your experience with a global audience, you should totally be a part of GIG.
