Sebastian Quack is an artist, game designer and curator working at the intersection of play, participation and the politics of urban society. Sebastian is a founding member of artist group Invisible Playground and curates Playpublik, an international festival for playful public spaces. He regularly teaches, gives talks and consults organizations on how to engage playfully with the world around them.

Sebastian holds an MA in cultural studies and computer science from Humboldt-University Berlin, and a fellowship from the Graduate School at Berlin University of the Arts. Early in his career, Sebastian worked on site-specific, participatory theater projects including Utopia Stock Exchange, before moving into game design by working on Area/Code’s plundr, the world’s first location-based PC game. Notable projects with Invisible Playground have since included Field Office, Lies In The Sand, Museum of Minor Incidents, 72 Hour Interactions – A World Championship of Gameful Architecture – and Turtle Wushu, a game that involves a tiny turtle sitting on your hand.

His newest project, Playful Commons, sets out to explore what kind of licenses administrators and users of public spaces can agree on when it comes to allowing play to take place.
